Vaginal thrush is a complaint
that affects many women. It can cause severe
discomfort as well as being sore. Do not worry
as this condition can be treated with
medication prescribed by your doctor. Some
women tend to leave it till the last minute
before going to a medical centre and tend to
endure the discomfort until it turns into a
severe
issue.
Vaginal
thrush is also known as a yeast
infection, it is an overgrowth of yeast
that leads to a range of unpleasant
symptoms, such as itching and soreness
around the vagina. No woman is exempt
from contracting vaginal thrush. Thrush
can be a recurring complaint and it is
because of this that it can affect and
disrupt a woman’s sex life. This
condition needs to be checked out by a
doctor because it could be a sign of
another health matter.
Vaginal thrush is
caused by the presence of yeast in the body
which grows out of control therefore causing
problems. This yeast is almost nearly always
Candida albicans, but another more resistant
yeast Candida glabrata, can also be behind
thrush forming.
It is just not
women (female species) that carry yeast in
their bodies - men and children also. The type
of yeast mentioned usually thrives in the
intestines, vagina, and the oral region, the
mouth and skin where a ‘friendly’ bacterium
helps to keep the yeast levels low. When this
balance is disturbed and the yeast is allowed
to grow unchecked, it is then you can expect
problems in the body.
The
female vagina is the common area to be
affected by thrush. Although the vagina
is generally too acidic for yeast to grow
out of control, it is sensitive to small
changes and can easily become a suitable
environment for yeast to grow. Too much
yeast irritates the vaginal tissues
therefore causing symptoms of thrush.
Because of the discomfort you as a woman
will know that something is not right.
The signs to look out for are itching, a
burning sensation, soreness, and swelling
of the vagina and vulva (outer area of
the vagina), and a smelly discharge. Just
because you may be experiencing these
signs does not always indicate that it is
thrush because many other women’s
concerns can stem from itchiness and
soreness too. With vaginal thrush you can
have one or more symptoms ranging from
mild to severe.
Thrush
irritates the delicate tissue of the
vagina and genital area, making it sore,
swollen and red; scratching will only
make the problem worse. One signs to look
out for is a change in the release of
discharge that you lose, colour, smell
and thickness. Have yourself looked over
- sooner than later to help make the
curing process a lot
easier.
