Pedicure

Pedicure – The feet are two very important limbs on the body that needs just as much care and attention- like that of any other part of the body undergoing a make over so as to speak..

Are you unsure to what a pedicure entails, are you a little dubious and don’t know what to expect once inside the beauty salon? Are you still a little uncertain that it is a beauty parlour you want to visit to have your feet pampered, well if this be the case you can do your own pedicure in the comfort of your home. A pedicure can be a wonderful form of molly coddling for the feet, it can lift your spirits and soothe those aching tootsies. Beauty salons have all the necessary equipment for a pedicure.

Below is what you can expect of a pedicure treatment.

Book a date in your diary for your pedicure in advance. Many parlours take “walk-in” customers; however, you’ll have less stress and far less chance of a long wait if you make an appointment in good time. Many clients booked in for a pedicure like to bring their own items to be used.

Bring a pair of open-toe shoes, after all you will want to show off the finished look. You can bring your own nail polish if you wish and a book, or magazine to pass the time away while the pedicure is performed

Allow a full hour for your pedicure. You may be done in 20-30 minutes; however, you don’t want to rush it and you’ll want to make sure your toes are completely dry before leaving the salon. Smudged nail polish is not a pretty sight. Bear in mind that you’ll be sitting in an open area with your feet up in the air, so you need to be comfortable and where suitable clothes i.e. no mini skirts.

The actual pedicure:

1. You’ll be seated at the manicurist’s station. There are two types of pedicure stations, a standard rolling cart that the manicurist sits on, with a bar in the front your feet rest on, or a large chair with a basin at the feet. Generally the latter style is reserved for higher end salons and spas, and is often called a “spa chair”. Does this not sound relaxing before we start?

2. The feet are prepped for the pedicure; any old nail polish is removed.

3. Your toenails are often more times snipped and shaped before being soaked; however, some salons do this after soaking. Large nail clippers and Emery boards are used to trim and file your toenails to a nice shape.

4. Your feet will be soaked in a bowl of warm water, often with a small vibration to it. Your feet should soak for at least five minutes before they start work on your cuticles. It is at this time of the foot soak you start to feel all those aches and pains easing. In most cases of a pedicure you never want the process to end.

5. Taking one foot at a time - cuticle lotion is applied to the edge of the toenails. An orange stick is used to push back the cuticles from the toenail.

6. A Cuticle trimmer is used to trim off the dead skin around the toenail edges. No live skin is cut. Do not be alarmed at any of the methods used; a pedicure is not painful, in fact quite the opposite

7. A little oil is applied and rubbed into each toe, and the foot is returned to the basin of warm water to soak followed with the same procedure for the other foot.

8. The first foot once again is removed from the water, and a pumice stone is used to remove callouses and dead skin from the base of the foot. Repeat method is used for the second foot

9. Both feet are returned to the water for a final soak. Then patted dry with a clean towel.

10. The toenails are buffed to a nice smooth shine with a nail buffer. This step may occur in conjunction with the nail trimming but is often saved until near the end.

11. Lotion is applied to each leg and foot, and rubbed in with a massaging motion. The toenails are then cleansed with a final drip of acetone (nail polish remover) on a clean cotton ball to remove any oil or lotion. The feet now may not be feeling like that of your own is patted dry and cotton or foam forms are inserted between the toes to keep them apart for the next stage of the pedicure.

12. Nail varnish is applied to each toenail. Typically you will have two coats of coloured polish, and one coat of clear topcoat. Toenails may be dried with the help of a fan. That is all there is to a pedicure. A manicure for the fingernails is also another beauty treatment that should be considered. A manicure is very much similar to a pedicure in the way it is performed.
