Bacterial
Vaginosis
What do
you know about Bacterial vaginosis and what is more what
has given you the reason why you think you might have
this condition. There is much confusion over this
particular vaginal infection so it is best that we
clarify what it is all about before you get yourself into
a panic.
Bacterial
Vaginosis "Not" Again
!
Bacterial
vaginosis is a vaginal issue determined by vaginal
discharge (abnormal.) Bacterial vaginosis rises from an
overgrowth of “normal” bacteria in the vagina. It was
once called Gardnerella vaginitis after the bacterium
that was thought to cause the infection. All women have
bacterium that naturally lives in or around the vaginal
area. What causes the symptoms? Bacteria can multiply if
it becomes imbalanced. With Bacterial vaginosis we
associate a vaginal odour (fishy
smell)
Bacterial
vaginosis is not passed on through having sexual
intercourse and is not life threatening, more like, life
upsetting. However it causes symptoms of discomfort for
the woman. If you notice any difference in the color or
amount of vaginal discharge you lose, then your vaginal
concern needs to be evaluated by a doctor so that if any
serious infections are present they can then be treated
and cured.
If you have
been diagnosed with having bacterial vaginosis you should
not worry as the infection is treatable. The amount of
vaginal discharge that is considered normal varies in
each woman. It is up to your doctor to determine what
degree of vaginal discharge is considered normal or
abnormal for each female. What you can expect from this
vaginal infection is an unpleasant fishy odour with
greyish white vaginal discharge. You have to remember
that an infection regardless of what body part it has
infected will not go away without
treatment.
Bacterial
vaginosis is common, however because we all differ in the
way we cope and handle pain is all the more reason to
visit your doctor. The importance of this is because it
could be something other than the Bacterial vaginosis
infection. Other vaginal infections can be thrush,
genital warts and genital herpes.
A common vaginal rash
around the vagina maybe caused by what we call vaginal
pimples. A mild rash may need nothing more than an
unscented soap and water to clear. As in contrast to an
infection it may need
antibiotics.
If you notice
change in your vaginal discharge or see specks of blood
then it is your best interest to have yourself checked
over so the problem can be treated. Vaginal odor and
discharge differences are what your doctor will examine
and look out for so he/she can make a definite prognosis
of the condition you are suffering
from
Pick up a
leaflet from your local clinic on Bacterial vaginosis for
more details. Other infections like STDs (sexually
transmitted diseases) can be more of a serious issue and
especially more so if you choose to ignore them and leave
them to fester. Treatment should be sought after
immediately. It has been known that death can occur from
infections as such if not treated in the early stage of
the infection happening.
